What are we here for?

What are we here for? What is the purpose of us being born, living and dying? Are we the result of millions of chances and because we are just an accident in the Universe, our lives don't have any purpose? Were we created by chaos, by the accidental fusion of particles? Or do we see, when we look around us, the hands of an artist that created not just function but beauty?

There are only two conclusions. Or our life is an accident or our life is inside a purpose larger than ourselves. And if our life is inside a purpose larger than ourselves, what is that purpose? Are we here to best enjoy everything that is good around us? Are we here to create memories, reach success, or build a name? Are we here to do whatever we think is best for ourselves? What are we here for?

I believe that the answer can be found inside another question: What is the plan that the creator of everything and everyone has for you? If He created everything and everyone, and if He placed you at this moment inside history, what is His plan for you? What is the purpose of you being born and being alive right now on Earth?

Jesus Christ came to the world to show you what is the plan for your life. He said "For God did not send  his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved". John 3:17 and when praying to the Father "I have glorified You on the earth: I have finished the work which You have given Me to do". John 17:4

Jesus Christ came to the world to bring salvation and to glorify God on Earth. He came to the world  "that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." John 17:3 That you could see the love of God, sending His own Son to receive the punishment that you deserved,  that you could adore and give glory to God. "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

And what about after you believe in Jesus as your Savior, does God have any plan for you? Is there anything that you can only do while you are on this Earth? Jesus said "As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world... that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me." John 17:18, 23 Witnesses to the glory of God!

It is only while here, in this world, that we can be witnesses of God's love, Christ's salvation and God's grace. "That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world". Philippians 2:15 It is only while here that we can glorify God in our daily lives. "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God". 1 Corinthians 10:31

It is only while here, that we can follow Jesus' steps while on Earth, showing His love to the ones around us. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them". Ephesians 2:10 And for us women saved by grace, there are some specific examples of good works that we can do. "Well reported for good works: if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saint's feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work". 1 Timothy 5:10

Jesus did not die for me because I am at the center of Christianity. Jesus died for me and for all that accept Him as their Savior, for the glory of God. "For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus' sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us" 2 Corinthians 4:5-7

If you and I are still on this Earth it is because God still wants to show His glory through our earthen vessels. It is because there are still children to be brought up, strangers to be lodged, feet to be washed, afflicted to be relieved, every good work to be done and people to be touched by God's love. And how do we accomplish that? "having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness ", "praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit" and "with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men". Ephesians 6:14,18,7

"See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming time (or making the most of every opportunity); because the days are evil." Ephesians 5:15,16

I am sure that when we follow what God wants us to do, we won't have to worry about what to do with our free time! That we may say like Paul at the end of our time here "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing". 2 Timothy 4:7,8
