First Sleepover

Friday, September 16, 2011

"Everybody needs a little time away, I heard her say, from each other..." was playing in the radio today and it reminded me of Luke's first sleepover last week. His first, officially. He had no problems with other people coming over, but never went somewhere for the night, without us. We were wondering if he was going to be a big boy. He went to sleep in a place which he loves, his grandparents house, but still, it would be his first solo flight away from the nest.

Next morning, to our surprise, he did not want to come back. The bird had found other trees to explore. Our baby has grown up and can take care of himself. Maybe everybody really "needs a little time away, from each other". But what about the "You're just a part of me, I can't let go"? A mother's heart will always struggle with the balance between stay and go.

Hard to say I'am sorry
(Chicago)

Everybody needs a little time away
I've heard her say
From each other

Even lovers need a holiday
Far away from each other

Hold me now
It's hard for me to say I'm sorry
I just want you to stay
And after all that you've been through
I will make it up to you
I promise you, baby

And after all thats been said and done
You're just the part of me I can't let go

Couldn't stand to be kept away
Not for a day
From your body
Wouldn't want to be swept away
Far away from the one that I love

Hold me now
It's hard for me to say I'm sorry
I just want you to know
Hold me now
I really want to tell you I'm sorry
I could never let you go

And after all that we've been through
I will make it up to you
I promise you

And after all that's been said and done
You're just a part of me I can't let go

I can't let go.
