A Alimentação Que Ajudou Meu Pai a Perder 7 quilos em 2 Meses, Sem Exercício

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Vale a pena tentar!

Made with love or ordered with love?

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

The scene unfolds like this: Already stressed out mom, cranky kids, the clock that was stuck in time during playground time starts to speed up like crazy and there is no dinner in view. Mom runs the options through her head: pasta (already made yesterday), omelet (out of eggs), pizza (already ordered twice past weekend), chicken nuggets (husband will not be happy with the Mickey Mouse shape), what to do? What to do?

As she stuffs cheerios in the baby's mouth to keep some silence in the house and plugs the older kid on a video, she starts the race against time to transform the old ugly veggies or the ugly frozen ones, the canned something and the bottled something else into a mix that resembles dinner. As long as it is made with love, right? But do stressed out moms making dinner have time to love? Isn't it easier to order with love?

Of course the above scenario is completely fictional and all of us organized moms already know on November 1st what we will have for dinner on November 16th. And not only the main course, but the side dishes and the desert. And our kids don't even know what the word "take out" means!

So here is the end of the story above. Mom decides to organize her life (the other option would be to check in the psychiatric unit), plan meals before the week starts and shop for ingredients only once, cook lunch instead of dinner (while older kid is in school and baby is napping) so it CAN be made with LOVE and also PEACE! And husband doesn't mind reheated lunch for dinner, as it tastes better than last minute meals out of old canned ingredients!

And they lived happily ever after!

Are you a Starbucks fan?

Starbucks Anniversary Blend
Picture via the Starbucks website
I live very close to a Starbucks coffeehouse. So it is no surprise that I spot at least 20 people everyday holding a Starbucks cup. And I always wonder what it is that they have ordered that make them come back. Some hold it like a dear friend, which kind of makes me jealous of the whole friendship experience they are having at the moment. Like if with every sip, they whisper a personal secret inside the cup.

I am not a coffee drinker, used to. In my country coffee tastes different, it has less water and it is drank in a different style. So after I moved to the USA and married my non coffee drinker husband, I slowly let the coffee drinking habit slide out of my life.

However, there they are, the cup holders making me wonder if I am missing something that may turn my last words in this world into something like "I wish I had had more Starbucks drinks" So I decided to sneak into the habit.

I am familiar with Starbucks. I have had many hot chocolates, some of the teas and smoothies, but I felt as like the list where coffee is one of the ingredients was always blurry, so many options, so many different names. So I went online, to research the subject, to find out the description for the fancy names. And then, as a pro I decided to try a different one every time I feel frivolous enough with my money to pay for a drink that I may like or not.

So far, I have tried 2. I would say that the first 10 sips were great, then they just lost their magic and I thought that the drink became too sweet. But I have challenged myself to try as many as I can and see if I fall in love with anyone of them (which could be dangerous, I know).

What about you, do you love Starbucks? Do you have a favorite or do you just order different ones every time? Do you dream about your cup of coffee?

I have to disclose that for my particular experiment I am only having decaff, so the caffeine won't trick me into thinking that I love it, just because my heart started beating faster.

Adventures in Food Photography

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Every hip blog got to have a pinch of Food Photography. That amazing view of a plate of gorgeous food that makes you wonder.. If that is what food is supposed to look like, what have I been cooking all my life? The plate set on a vintage towel, landed on a farm table, with a fireplace on the back, a beautiful vase surrounding fresh picked wild flowers.

Never mind that the reality of most moms is a plastic blue or pink plate, landed on the floor, upside down, with some dismantled toys on the back, and a pile of beautiful fresh picked clothes from the dryer.

Anyway, even with so much reality to face everyday, why not to dream once in a while? Dream of a perfect dinner, picture perfect. Here it is...

Main course: Broccoli soup
Dessert: Pumpkin puree with cinnamon, maple syrup and coconut.

And for some real Food Photography check this amazing website. I have tried and enjoyed lots of her recipes.
